I have a teen boy who wants to get certified. He is not large framed and wears a medium mens shirt. Would you reckon a medium ladies would fit him? TIA.
ETA: This is a BCD I'm talking about. I apologize for the vague question.

What type of gear are we talking about?

I'm "vertically challenged" :D 5' 6" 150 pounds (medium T-shirts for me too) and I wear a men's small wet suit (3 mil) right off the rack.

BCD, I have worn both mens Medium and M/L. Depends on the brand. I would highly suggest trying on. My daughter is having a tough time getting a wetsuit to fit properly and we may have to go the custom route.

Hope that helps you out.

It's hard enough to predict between brands and models withhin a gender. In this case it sounds like a wetsuit is in question and trying it on wlll need to be the answer. Remember that it's an issue of size and cut. The womens suit reflecting the bust and hips. What is a good fit? See here.

Johnny thanks. The BCD in question (at this time) is a Keagle. Link to sale locally

Mods if I'm breaking any rules please delete the link.

I wear a variety of bcd's from the rental fleet. IME I find a ladies medium is like a men's small. the length of adjustable strapping, waist straps etc are shorter on the ladies gear. The length of the men's backpack (hard or soft) is longer than ladies.

i own a men's xs/sm for the pool and a men's M/L in the ocean wearing a drysuit.

i get a lot of tall skinny young men in my class, and they would not fit a women's medium properly because their upper backs and shoulders are much broader than a women's.

Hey Ronin,

I could be totally wrong here, but on BCD's the womens are cut slightly different too (as was explained to my daughter during her class). As has been stated by Spectrum re wetsuit, I would really want to try one on. On Bc's not only would I want to try it on, I'd like to give it a shot in the pool too. Not a deal breaker, but certianly a preferance for me.

I see you are in Middle TN. We are over in West TN. If you are looking for a dive buddy over this way next Spring/Summer, hit me up. We have been up to Mermet and like it there. Will probably give Pelham a shot next year too.
