A memorial service and celebration of life will be held this Thursday to remember Tim Mitchell who was killed last week during the wind storm that hit Avalon. Tim was a longtime instructor and staff member for Catalina Scuba Luv as well as a member of the Avalon Harbor Patrol.
Free round-trip transportation to Avalon is being provided by the Catalina Express out of their San Pedro Terminal (Berth 95). The boat will leave at 7:30AM, will stay at the island al day, and then will bring everyone back to San Pedro at the end of the day. To make a reservation at no charge, call Catalina Express at 800/622-2354. Tell them you've going over for Tim Mitchell's service and they'll connect you with a special department that's arranging this. (Please note you CANNOT book this on-line.) You may be able to show up day-of and get on-board but a reservation would be preferable.
Here's the planned schedule:
10:00AM - Avalon Underwater Park
A public service will be held with all invited to attend
12 Noon - Little Farnsworth
A burial at sea will take place at Little Farnsworth (near Avalon offshore from the Edison plant). Those who came over on the Catalina Express will re-board that boat as it and other vessels will depart from The Mole. Tim's family will be aboard Rescue 2. All other boats will shadow Rescue 2 to Little Farnsworth where the ashes will be released.
2:00-6:00PM - M Restaurant (205 Crescent St. Avalon)
All are invited for a celebration of Tim's life.
A fund has been set up for Tim's family and donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to:
Avalon Harbor Employee's Association
P.O. Box 1085
Avalon, CA 90704
