I tried to get a shot of the squids when I was down there a week ago, the best I could get was this:

Never could get close to them. Your shot is great, btw.

I've always found squids to be a tough exposure--they need more light than you think but their eyes and reflective eye dishes are easy to blow out. I've found that if you stop near them, they'll come check you out and often get quite close. Can't chase them, though. Here's a recent attempt:

thanks, i switched from webshots to photobucket. i dont think webshots offers the image tag.

We have image tags. You copy the link from the properties of the uploaded picture...then click the yellowish icon with the montains, paste your link and ok it. you can post pretty much any picture off the web that way.

You're not kidding. They're fast little jokers. They did seem to come back towards me when I just kind of hovered in place, but I couldn't take too long as we were drift diving in WPB and the viz was down due to the hurricane that had passed by a day or two before. We would have become separated from our group if I stayed in place much longer. Oh well, there's always next time. :D

These squid hung out for me... It was the first time ever. I've followed them before, and they were too far to get good pictures. This time - they hung out and changed colors, and gave me a show - about 3 feet from my face... good for taking pictures.

Here you can see it was changing colors
