We just got back from a week at the Melia. The grounds are 5* and the rooms are 2*. Mildew and mustiness greets you when you enter. The beds were hard, but other than that It was OK, no real complaints. AC worked good as the Ocean breezes do not offer much relief. We had a Ocean view on the 6th floor of the tower with a partial kitchen (No AI for us). Beware that the back complex has 3 floors and no elevator. The beach was Ok except the day we went snokeling and were surrounded by a sea of jellyfish..ackkk we got out of there fast. The cost of a cab for 2 people to town is 45 pesos (pay in pesos its a better deal than US) although they might try to charge You 50. A cab to Caleta (where alot of dive ops are is $11 US) so we rented a car. Less Pay at the Hotel Barracuda had VW pointers with AC for 38.50 all inclusive (25+10+tax). For those with the "option" of AI it was an extra $317 a week per person. Not worth it even for the pool bar. Instead we went out to eat at some really great places. What was worth it was the pottery painting by the activities pool. What professional results, you do the basics and then they touch it up and put the flourishes on, amazing!

FWIW, we had no mold or mildew in our room...they were very clean. We were on the 3rd floor of the back garden views.

The water tends to have a bunch of seaweed there depending on the winds, but the next hotel over has a pier that keeps the water pristine and full of fish. Beautiful snorkeling over there!

When I was there, there were millions of tiny tiny jellyfish larve...they don't sting and I swam through literally millions of them while snorkeling. Perhaps they had grown up a bit more by the time you got there and were becoming dangerous.

We will probably do AI at Melia - just for convenience the first week. It is pretty low $ as far as AI's go so I don't mind hitting a few restaurants on my own. It just means mas cervezas or vino to make up the difference. This is where we own timeshare (bought on the cheap second hand) so I am hoping they will give us a tower room. We went a few years ago with 3 adult (sortof) kids and ended up getting all our meals "comped" because of a mix-up on their part and some great tears on mine!
soooooo.....I am already ahead by about $1500. ???wonder if it will work twice???
Counting down 7:00 am flight into Coz on Sat so should be sippin' something by the pool by late afternoon :10:
Still trying to get my photo's on - said too many pixels - no time to play around, but I may give it one more shot.
