First time poster here, so hello everybody :D

I'm wondering if anybody knows if McPhee Bay of Lake Simcoe (this place) would be any good as a dive site? According to the depth charts it's 12-15 ft deep max, which is good as I'm looking for something easy to play around with, exercise and get used to everything a bit more (newly certified here). But I don't know what it's like in there, how the vis is, if it's weedy, etc etc. I know there's probably better dive sites around, but this one would be very convenient. Any information appreciated.

Cheers

All I can really say is that it looks like there is a fair bit of boat traffic in the bay. If you are refrershing skills, I would not want to do it in shallow water with boat traffic. Recipe for trouble IMO. 12 feet with boats is not good even with perfect trim and boyancy.

Take this for what it is worth considering I do not know the area.....just a google earth picture and what you've said.

EDIT

One other thing to consider, if the max depth is 15', how far out do you have to swim to reach that? How shallow and exposed will you be where you would be diving?

You'd be far better off diving the wreck of the Morrison on the waterfront just off Essa Road. It doesn't get much deeper than around 25 feet and there are marker buoys to keep boat traffic out.

It's a true story. :)

It really is your best bet for practice dives and there is actually something to see.

Definetly boat traffic plus its very silty there.
