The shuttle between Cancun and Cozumel can be convenient…I say CAN. I take it frequently now that the airlines have cut way back on service to Coz, but I don't carry much luggage.

Here are some problems:

1. Yesterday I saw a diver from Colorado with his normal dive gear and they charged him $150 baggage charge.

2. Their counter and loading is at the FBO terminal and can be very difficult to get to from any of the normal terminals, sometimes and hour or more.

3. Their counter person is uninformed and misleading. Having a reservation made for be by my shop partner, either on line or by phone, she told me the plane was full and I had no reservation. IF that actually happened one could find it difficult to get out of there and on the bag drag to Playa Dl Carmen. But I insisted and ten she "found" my reservation and it had already been paid.

4. When finally boarding the aircraft I found only 6 seats occupied out of 20!

5. The only good news is that when you get on the plane it is only 15 minutes to Cozumel.

The main take away from this is that if you bring your own dive gear and have more than a small bag, forget it.

The second take away is that it is likely to be faster to get to Playa than the FBO terminal. There may or may not be a longer wait for the ferry.

Dave,

We seldom use Mayair to Cozumel, but the couple time we have, we grabbed a Lomas guy outside of arrivals and he took us right to the plane. In fact the one time we were going back because they cancelled our flight to the states. When we FINALLY got back out of the airport, I grabbed the Lomas guy and he rushed a van over so we could make the next flight. Every time I have come through Coz there was a Lomas guy right there waiting?

A dive buddy of mine ran up against the bag weights in Coz. He demanded a refund so he could take the ferry. They negotiated and he paid less for the bags, but of course he still paid.

Last time out of Cozumel I had 14 people, almost the whole plane. I got to CZM the standard 30 minutes early. The counter gave me a little grief like we should have been there an hour before. Previously we were there 45 minutes early and had to wait 15 minutes for the window to open. I mean like they were going to leave without me?

I know all about the Lomas guys, and they are normally quite helpful, but try as I might, none were to be found at the new In'tl building. The bottom lines, that with Mayair you can't count on anything, and don't bet on negotiation on anything. I overheard the Colorado diver arguing with them but no luck for him—$150 extra!

PS Once you are at the Mayair desk at the FBO terminal it is a real chore to reverse course when they try to screw you. No taxis, No busses to Playa, only a shuttle bus every (maybe) 40 minutes. In Cozumel it is a lot easier to back out and tell them where to stick it, that may be why they negotiated with you in Coz, don't expect that in Cancun

I haven't used them as they have always sounded like the Mexican version Spirit (or now even worse the new Frontier). Dive gear excess 'weight' charges @ 3X the cost of a seat? I work for sleazy airline but its not that sleazy.
