Hi,

I'm
Planning a trip to Costa Maya and was looking at Maya Palms resort, but I've heard some conflicting opinions. While everything I see on trip advisor is complementary, my an outfit that I was planning this through refuses to book with them because of their reputation.

Is it possible that they have changed hands again? On this forum it looks like the shop was sold in 2004, but I would have thought that any negative situations left over from the previous owner would have been resolved by now.

Thanks so much for any help you can offer,

Tony

Tony,

I just got back from staying at Maya Palms for a week of diving. My fiance and I have been now a total of 3x (each for a week).

It is my favorite dive location, and I can tell you that the accommodations and hospitality are great! It's not the Ritz, but it's very comfortable and geared around diving (note: if you're a non-diver about all's to do is lay by the pool or the beach and relax).

It's a bit out of the way, but that leads to pristine coral and no other diver boats in site!

On this last trip we saw, nurse sharks, eels, barracuda, Loggerhead and Hawk's Bill turtles, Sting Rays, Spotted Eagle Rays and Dolphin.

In fact, on 3 of the dives we were dropped right over the reef and immediately had a turtles swim right up to us (we had to move out of their way).

Another dive I had 2 dolphin swim right past me, then loop around for 2 more passes...and re-emerge at the safety stop and share their playtime between swimming past us and checking out the surface boat above.

And if that isn't enough ... this is all true ... the last dive, again at our SS, a beautiful 5' Spotted Eagle Ray swam right to us and majestically circled us within a 12-15' radius (at times going so close we could have reached out and touched her) ... FANTASTIC!

We plan on going back at least 1x / year. Our next scheduled plan is July 4th weekend 2014 (if not again sooner)....

Sometimes booking agents won't use a property because they won't get the commission they want. :idk:
