We weren’t too sure if we should dive at Anda, Bohol as there isn’t much information on the quality of the diving. We were glad we gave it a chance! We dived with Anda Scuba Diving for one week (around 15 dives). Getting there from Panglao was easy enough. We took a private car to Jagna (Peso 3k) and then a trike to Anda (P800).

[Incidentally, we stayed in Jagna for a couple of nights to dive there; it was ok, nothing to really recommend].

ACCOMMODATION:
We stayed at two places:
-Kim’s Garden Inn Resort: Nice jungle setting but need a scooter to get to diving and into town for eating, as there is no lunch or evening meal served.
-Three Little Birds (recommended): Nice and affordable resort nestled behind a couple of more expensive beach resorts. Has a pool, restaurants, nice staff, and just a stones throw from the dive centre.

ANDA:
Anda is a small and mellow place. It’s very different to Panglao. You will definitely be able to relax here. You can find good food and beaches, but don’t expect to party hard.

DIVING CENTRE
We got a scooter and checked out three diving operators and decided to go with Anda Scuba Diving. The dive centre was very well designed, incredibly organised, and the explanation of their services gave us some assurance we’d had a good experience. They are also well priced, despite being within the grounds of an upmarket resort (Islandview Resort).

Anda Scuba Diving is owned and operated by a very lovely French couple. They are very hands-on and lead dives themselves. The dive centre is one of the best we have ever seen. They designed it themselves and it’s very well done. I’ve not seen one as well organised as these guys. It’s a smaller centre, just one boat. They do a max. of 4 divers per group.

They offer 3 day dives per day on single trips, as the dive sites are very close. Can also night dive of course. They have a comfortable boat to get you to the dive sites. It’s not the traditional, banca-type, but a covered wide speedboat with plenty of room. The boat holds probably 8 customers at maximum.

Briefings were very good and also included environmental care. They are actually very good at reminding divers to not touch and maintain good buoyancy. Two other divers were touching corals etc way too much for their photography and it was good to see them being asked to be more careful. Everything runs on schedule (did i mention how organised these guys are?)

Dives are planned to 1 hour, and the guide will take up divers with fast consumption rates for the boat, and then come down to resume the dive so you will get your 60 minutes (gas allowing).

DIVING:
Anda is pretty much a coastal reef/wall and there are no pinnacles or other further offshore sites. There is plenty to see, including frogfish, more turtles than you need, and plenty of nudis and macro life. They are very good at finding things to show you.

Even though there are not a great variety of dive sites types (no wrecks, pinnacles etc), there is diversity of sites along the reef/wall. We loved the macro stuff, and the night dive was one of the best we have ever done.

FINALLY:
Do we recommend Anda? We loved it here! The diving is pretty good and we loved the more mellow vibe from being away from the main tourist areas such as Panglao. I don’t think i would travel to the Philippines just to dive Anda, but if you diving other places and have a few days to spare then Anda is very worth considering. I highly recommend to dive with ‘Anda Scuba Diving’; one of the best small dive centres we have experienced.
Hello carono6333
Anda bohol is very nice and not so crowded, 1peace beach resort have a very nice dive shop, not so expensive with big and small Bangkok.
The life thete is quiet and diving not so busy.
Reef is very healthy, average o 10 to 15m visibility, we can find the many small creatures, turtles, group of fishes and sometime the whale shark is passing by.
Sure the typhoon in December 2021 affect the reef, most hard corals get damage, soft coral survive but as I can see the difference now, the life is back, table coral host fishes same as it was before, you can find the pigmy sea horse in the sea fan gorgon, all the dive site easy to access with less than 15min ride.
We can dive all year round, for the raining season, can be windy, we go the other side of the village where it's protected.
I hope people will visit and enjoy there, far from the airport it will stay protected from the heavy tourism.
Enjoy and stay safe, happy bubbles👌

I love Anda...always stay at Amun Ini but as you say it is $$$. At this point in our lives, we are willing to pay for it. In fact, I am in process of planning my next visit!

Back from a 5 day stay in Anda, will try to write a TR asap if I can find the time, but I want to echo the OP's thoughts about it: it's GREAT! It was windy and a bit rainy, did use the other side of village to go into boat and to dive there, it was just fine! I love to dive "alone" and this experience was just great!
Viz on top of reef was limited at times, 2nd to sand being moved around, but deeper than 15m it was 20+ meters viz easily. Walls extremely healthy!

It's quite a trek from Thailand to Anda (time and cost), how does it compare to just a hop, skip, and a jump to Koh Lipe?

I got used to 24hrs treks to go from my old home to SEA before I lived in BKK, so I consider this "easy". Thai travel infrastructure is better. Lipe is also nice, though I haven't done the deeper wall reef coral dives since pre-covid (just did a muck trip last year which turned out to be sand storm from the conditions). I think being alone in Anda was a real ace card. And when I go to PH I like to do 2-3 different places/ islands, so I do invest 10-18 days total on the trip.

This particular trek details:
From BKK --> MNL then to the Visayas next AM (slept at hotel in Pasay Newport City opposite NAIA Terminal 3). I actually did a DGT - Dauin 4 days dive stint before Anda. Then took a ferry DGT --> TAG Bohol. The TAG to Anda part is 2 hrs, on a good road, though lots of villages/ small towns make it about a 50 km/hr drive on average. To be honest, I never felt tired from the traveling.

Thanks. For me, it's a real PITA getting to and getting around the Philippines. I've always had good diving at Ko Lipe. I've also dived extensively around the Philippines, from Subic Bay, Anilao, PG, Malapasqua, and Dauin. Between the central and south Andamen Sea and Bali, I think I've got my diving covered.

I have to agree: comparing the convenience , efficiency and reliability of transport options going to/ intra-Thailand vs Philippines and Indonesia, it's not close to the same level. Just the (in)convenience of landing at NAIA from many international routes and having to wait till the next AM for a connection... Never knowing if your flight will be cancelled or delayed beyond the next connection (valid also for Indo...)... It adds up esp. if on a tighter schedule.

We all make our choices based on personal preferences so I can only say that I was extremely happy to have finally been to Anda. I did put out a full TR (Visayas trip 2025 Dauin and Anda Bohol) for anyone interested.

@JonnieB, since you live in TH, if you come to BKK for any significant amount of time, DM before if you want to catch a coffee and chat. Cheers!

In my younger days, I would have had no problem trekking over to Anda, it was all a part of the adventure. And I have certainly enjoyed all my time in the Philippines. As one gets older, the issues you describe become more of an annoyance; that and lugging 25 kilos of dive gear from place to places takes a toll on us silver divers. As I have only a few grails left on my list, the need to travel far and wide has diminished; and the fact I can fly no-stop from Bangkok to Denpasar in four hours, and then a 2.5 hour drive to Amed/Tulamben and be diving the next morning, just can't be beat. The fact that the Andaman Sea and Bali basically have opposite diving seasons, so I can always dive somewhere, is an added bonus. Thanks for the offer and I'll definitely try to meet up for a diving chat and to compare notes the next time I'm in Bangkok.

LOL.
Philippines is DEAD easy to travel, no challenge at all.
Southern Leyte and Sipalay are very good for diving but seldom see foreign tourists because of the location!!! Have 'will" will travel but only truth if one has the inclination.
Time is only an feeble excuse. LOL.
Travelling in North Western Thailand 38yrs ago was not that easy. Chiang Mai was then a tiny town and Mae Hong Son took long time to reach from Tak city.

I am planning a trip to East Timor(Timor-Leste) next yr and pretty sure divers with mentality similar to @JonnieB could ONLY dream about it.
