i shoot military surplus, usually no better than 3-inch patterns at 100 yards.

this is my "arsenal" at the moment:

Yugo SKS-45
WASR-10 AK-47
Mosin-Nagant 98/30
Mauser K98k

and, my first rifle

Winchester 94 (.30-30)

If you think that the Mauser is sweet try a Springfield 1903, not the '03-A3; I have had one for about 35 years. When my eyes were good 1.5" groups with the orignal iron sights. It is a star gauge barrel, which helps a lot.
 
The quality and workmanship is excellent on the 1903-A1 while the 1903-A3 is the mass produced WW-II version and looks the part. However, if you get one in good condition, it will still shoot extremely well even with the two groove rifling.
 
yeah, the M1903 have a great rep

unfortunately, they are also pricey ... so many guns, so little money
