Does Maumere offer any dives suitable for beginner divers? (i.e with only a few dives under our belts before getting there?)

Yes, no problems.
If you go with Seaworld Club, Alex will lead you to current free spots that will suit any level of divers. (you can read my report on Maumere on this board)
