I'm a Fish!
Just out of curiosity who all is going for their master diver? and what are the opinions on the certification?

it in lieu of the Advanced Cert... (SSI)

Advanced cert requirements = 4 specialties + 25 dives
Master Diver = 4 specialties + Stress & Rescue + 50 dives

As I already have almost 50 dives and plan on taking the requisite spec's I dont see a Reason to do the Advanced program when I can go straight to the Masters cert, probably at the start of next season.

I got my Master Diver level a couple of years ago through PADI. It took 5 specialties, Rescue diver & 50 logged dives. I am now working with SSI & their requirements are 4 specialties, Stress & Rescue & 50 logged dives. It's the highest non professional rank you can reach in most agencies. It's a nice way to reward yourself for continuing to learn. Go for it, if that's what you'd like to do!

Me. PADI Master Diver is only 9 dives away.

I have 80 dives, OW, AOW, and 2 specialties (Nitrox & Drysuit). So, I could get master diver with 3 more specialties and rescue diver. I'm not working TOWARD it, but I'm sure I'll get it eventually, just because I will have already fulfilled the requirements anyway.

I will be qualified as an SSI Master Diver after next week as I have the dives, the specialties and will have done Rescue by then.

However, unless it is free (which I doubt) I am not bothering to get the card. To me, it does not mean much as it doesn't change where I am allowed to dive on charters (I have Deep cert so that is all I need to show on local charters to be able to dive to all of the recreational sites). So I really see no point in me getting this card to be honest, just a bit of plastic. Maybe if it was actually hard to meet the requirements (most specialties you can teach yourself in a dive or two...) to get I would feel more like wanting the card... also it is just going to show stuff I know I have done, which is recorded in my log and in my head, so not sure why I would need a card for that :P

PvtStash, if you do four specialties with SSI that gives you your AOW. So you will get AOW qualified as part of the SSI Master Diver program. You just might not want to bother paying to get the AOW card and save it for the Master Diver card.

Exactly what I was thinking...

Go for the NAUI Master Diver, it's probably the best class NAUI offers. The lectures on physiology and physics as well as several other subjects are pretty in-depth. We're getting ready to add the Master Diver class to our university schedule. It will cover two quarters, the first quarter is academic and the second quarter covers the watermanship aspects.
