A huge search has been taking place for a missing diver off the Welsh coast. The alarm was raised on Thursday afternoon after reports of a diver “in difficulty” off Porth Ysgaden in Gwynedd.

The HM Coastguard helicopter, a fixed wing aircraft, and local RNLI crews are involved in the search, which has been ongoing for several hours. Porth Ysgaden is a sheltered cove on the Llyn Peninsula and is a popular spot for divers, reports North Wales Live.

Rescue teams were alerted to the scene shortly after 1pm on Thursday and aircraft, lifeboats and local police have all joined in the search.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “HM Coastguard is coordinating the search for a possible diver in difficulty off Porth Ysgaden, Gwynedd. The report came in just before 13:15 this afternoon (28 November). A coastguard helicopter, coastguard fixed wing aircraft, Porthdinllaen, Abderdaron and Abersoch coastguard rescue teams, Porthdinllaen RNLI lifeboat and the police are all assisting in the search.”
