I always have my eye out for a cheap storage device for travelling. I don't need one with a monitor, just something to dowload my Smart Media Cards onto to free them up.

I like your IO Magic device H2Andy but the prices online run around $200 which is still pretty cheap. It is not USB 2 though. I'll check into it at my Radio Shack.

The X's Drive II is $79.00 and is USB2. It accepts most of the media formats. All you do is put any lap top hard drive in it and it's good to go. There are plenty of those out there. Looks like for under $200. this may be another inexpensive storage option.

My local Radio Shack has the I/O hard drive. I think it costs about $150.

At about $200 you can get the Archos Gmini. It's about the size of an Ipod but comes with a CF reader. You would need an adapter for other formats.

I really like the Archos AV320 but I can't stomach spending $400, plus a CF reader. In another couple of months a new generation of hard drives/players is coming out that will be wi-fi enabled. That will fill a nice void between PDA and notebook computer.

We are fairly new to this and are beginning to rapidly gain new equipment (and drain the savings account  ). I have been looking at options for digital storage - especially for something that could be used for travel in the place of lugging the laptop. Here are a few options I have found (most of which are options that allow you to burn the cards to a CD -a few of these allow the unit to be plug in and used as a DVD player). These are listed with my personal current best choice as the top (and the price if I have found one):

- Micro Solutions Roadstor ($269) http://www.roadstor.com/
This is the one I think we are going to go with - looks like an all around great value and the reviews are great!
-Delkin eFilm Picture Pad ($339.00)
-Kanguru FC-RW ($189.00) or Kanguru XMedia (price varies based on size) http://www.digital-trendz.com/kangurufcrw.htm
-Ez DigiMagic DM320 ($199.00)

Hope this helps!
