Hey guys,

What the trending practices on preparing your mask? Years ago, the practices were to scrub your mask with toothpaste. Is that still a thing?

Follow up question is about how to prevent fogging. What's the successful practices these days?

If you could just hang on, I am looking up what trending practices means
but toothpaste would be a thing if we had old toothpaste, with some grit
but I've heard of some new product, called divemaster spit, or something

I use washing powder and my own spit

I think that toothpaste is still the state of the art when it comes to prepping a mask.

Case in point, I recently got a new mask and was told by the shop where I bought it that “these newer masks don’t need any prep”…wrong. Was fog-o-matic. So I gave it the toothpaste treatment and problem solved.

Before each dive I prevent fog by using soapy water and a healthy rinse. I can't stand soap in the mask.

I still use anti fog before each dive after one initial prep with toothpaste.

I give it a once over when it’s new and then some J&J baby shampoo right before I get in the water.

I have used the lighter to burn off the manufacturing agent. Then I use the gold drops about 30 minutes before every dive. It partially dries and the excess gets rinsed off in the water. No issues
