On July 3rd Chica and I rolled over to Marineland. The tide was pretty high that morning (+3.4) at a very reasonable 9:00 AM - but the thing was this: Low Tide was going to be a +2.6 at 1:00 PM.
Think about that - water nearly not moving for about 3 hours. An excellent time to scramble over the sharp rocks with scooters and the deathstar!
The water was cool - just about 50 for the whole dive.
Although not clear, it was clear enough to see about 14 species of Nudis.
We flew a flatworm. That was a first. Kinda funny - they coil up and get all crumbled. When we put him back on the rock, he took off, made a sharp left and then ran over a baby Hermissenda.
THAT was funny.
A pair of Cuthona on lots of eggs - with a little Tricolor sneaking into the corner of the frame.
Looking over we found a little fat Tricolor - loaded with Nudi guts!
A stretchy Fed Ex, a bull-nosed Limbaughs and lots of other cool stuff.
No drama, managed some issues and made it out at cobble beach OK.
At the end of the dive, the GM of Guest Services, Kelly, came over to chat us up for about 20 minutes - asking us what makes the diving at Marineland special, why is it different from other sites along the coast, etc. We talked about the work they've done on the resort, upcoming plans and just had a neat chat with a great guy.
I love this dive.
Many thanks to Claudette - strong, focused, fun. This is becoming one of our favorite dives, and it rarely disappoints.
A few shots below.
Enjoy.

Pair of Cuthonas - there are about 3 or 4 sets of eggs in that mass, all different ages. I have other shots of just the eggs, but I like this shot better. As I was processing this I found the little tri-color Nudi on the right of the frame... Who knew??
Reachy Fed Ex - this guy was over a pretty big chasm reaching out for another foothold.
Bullwinkle J Nudi - why the long face?
Fatty TriColor - this little guy was nearly transparent, proudly showing off his Nudi guts for us all.
Flying Flatworm - for some reason, Claudette and I have been finding flatworms on nearly every dive in July. Guess its the season. I love them. They're fast, funny, gorgeous and pretty rare. Here's a guy we flew.
Running Flatworm - After he went for a little flight, we put him back onto the fuzz and he took off. Flatty on the hoof, he's bobbin' and weavin', he's shuckin' and jivin'... he's mowing down a baby Hermi. Guess that happens when you don't have eyes.
