I have the V16 + Epos too.

I too recommend that the mouth piece be replaced (I use the
Aqua Lung comfo-bite mouth piece). A longer (or thinner) hose might be a good idea too. There's a little bit of resistance from the fat Mares hoses when turning my head to the right side. Otherwise, a great reg.

I have the MR12 first stage with the Epos second stage. I have only dove with it once thus far but I liked it fine. I did notice the larger stiffer hose did tend to push the reg in my mouth when looking to the right, as well as the mouthpiece not being very comfortable. There was also a little bubble interference, but it was acceptable. I researched Rodales midprice range regs before purchasing mine and was aware of all these little weakness' in the Epos, but purchased it anyway based on its overall superior rating. I like the fact it has metal inserts which help to alleviate dry mouth from inhaling the dry air. I do plan to replace the mouthpiece with either the SeaCure or the AquaLung Comfo-bite. I also have the Axis Octo.

Mares is well known for thier quality regulators. While there are others which may be better.....i.e. Apex, Scubapro, etc., its hard to get a better reg for your money than the Mares.

To All,
I agree with everyone that Mares is a quality reg. In my opinion they're as good as any. The first thing to do is to purchase a SeaCure mouthpiece. That eliminates a lot of problems. Now about the V-16 first stage. I just ran across a Mares advertisement that says the V-16 has a Titanium high pressure valve. The Mares web page is down right now, so I can't verify that fact. Ya'll might want to take note, if any of you are planning to move on to Nitrox. Ti and 02 don't mix well. Just for your consideration. :tree:Bob
