Hi,

I'm thinking of getting myself a dive comp and have narrowed down my choices to either the Nemo or Stinger.

I also had the chance to try out the Stinger (which I borrowed from a friend) on a recent dive trip. From all the reviews that I've come across so far, I had pretty high expectations of the Stinger, and it did not fail in most areas... except that I felt it was too conservative in terms of no-fly time, and there was no function for me to find out how much no-fly time I had left. After a total of 11 dives (deepest of which was 30m), I had to wait about 27 hours before I was allowed to fly by the Stinger! Other than that, the Stinger was user-friendly after you got the hang of it.

As for the Nemo, I've neither had the chance to dive with it nor take a physical look at it 'cos most of the dive stores in my country haven't brought in any shipment yet. But from what I've gathered online, it seems comparable to the Stinger performance-wise and it looks SWEEEEET!

Currently, I'm kinda skewed towards getting the Nemo but would like to seek some other views before making a final decision. Thanks in adv!

I actually haven't been diving with it yet, as we just got them in, but the Mares Nemo does look very cool, has a great display, lots of features including a very good free dive mode, and all in a great looking package that runs about $400... Wish I had a trip coming up! But too busy to get mine wet between now and Christmas.

i have a stinger, been wearing mine since summer 2002. Also wera it as a watch because I've been to lazy to change the battery in my proper watch! But I LOVE my stinger, it's really solid, and has already lived through a few bangs here and there!
It's easy to use, user friendly, the nitrox section of it works really well too. i have a stinger as my main computer and plan to get a new one- possibly a mosquito for backup come next season.

Hey Larry,

That's a great offer for the Nemo you've got at your store!

btw, would you know how does the Nemo compare with the Stinger size-wise e.g how big are their watch faces? The Stinger caught on to the straps of by BC a few times during my last trip, and I've come across some threads by Nemo users who said they didn't have this problem.

Would you also know any differences between the algorithms used on the Nemo and Stinger? Understand that the Nemo uses an updated version of the RGBM algorithm used on the Stinger.

It's so rounded... it seems like it would be very hard to catch it on much. As far as the technical specs... check out this link: http://www.nemo.mares.com/home.asp?lang=ENG

That should answer most everything... but when comparing to the Suunto... we don't carry them, so I'd hate to talk about stuff when I'm not sure. (That's kinda new on a board isn't it?!)

The buttons on the Nemo are also nice and big, so they're easy to use even if you're wearing thick gloves or mitts. I found my brother's Stinger very nice but the teeny buttons...good for him diving in the tropics but not for me.

The only thing that I wish the Nemo had is a face guard, like the Stinger does.

I dive a stinger and am very happy with it. I saw the Nemo last month and tried it on. It really looked good. Looked hitech. Only problem I could see was that the strap was too short for me. It only had a little bit left after putting it on. I think they come with an extension, like the stinger, but if you plan to wear it as a watch, even just driving to the dive, you might want to check the length of the strap.

I did not dive it so I do not know about its conservatism but aren't they both RGBM?

Also, I never complain about conservatism. I am always more conservative than the computer.

Larry, sorry to hear you're so busy. Regarding your Nemo, send that bad boy to me and I'll keep it wet for you. ;)

Man that's awfully nice of you! If I send you some frequent flyer tickets will you take him diving for me too? ;)

Ouch. Well I'm just a diver who aims to please. :eyebrow:

As far as the Nemo, I don't suppose the battery is user-replaceable, is it?
