I'm thinking of buying one of these two regs. any feedback or advice?
i have the aybss, the only things i don't care for is the big stiff hose, proton is soft and flexable and the mouth piece which is weak and small. i had to replace it so i put a sea cure on. i think the proton has a different mouth piece too?

Yes, the small mouthpiece and the overly stiff hose are valid complaints regarding the Abyss. Mares addressed the issues with the changes made with the Proton series. I can highly recommend the Halcyon LP hoses as replacements. They have stress relieving fittings and the hose material is very flexible. Personally, I've always liked the smallish mouthpiece over the new Proton style.
