Hi All,

Have pretty much decided on a Mares Morphos. Maybe some of you can answer a few questions. What's the difference between the Morphos Pro and the Morphos Twin? With my next question I don't want to start a war....has anyone purchased a bcd from leisure pro? I've read all the debates on buying from leisure pro and buying from authorized dealers, etc. so please don't bash me for asking. If you bought your bcd from leisure pro, did you have any problems and if you did, did they take care of it? I was going to get the morphos from divers direct but they sold out. My LDS doesn't carry anything mares. Now, if anyone knows of another authorized dealer that can come close to leisure pro in price, I'm all ears!!! Went to Mares website but couldn't get far with it! Thanks so much in advance!

We took all the morphos that we had in stock and sent them back to Mares... was not really too impressed with them. If you do want one though, you can give me a shout, and if they have them in stock I can get one in a couple of days... and everything we sell comes with a full warranty.

Let me know if I can help!

.. and no problems, find the airtrim system works fine, the bc will take in water if you overdump with the airtrim system but you get used to this, it takes a bit of practice to get the inflation and dumping down to an art!! ;)

Larry, what are the problems you've found??

Only major difference between the two is the Pro has the manual inflation hose outside the pocket, the BC is basically the same ( I beleive!! Mares web site is a Joke?? :11: )

It wasn't really problems with them... it was just when we got them in... the quality and features vs. price did not seem right. Kinda seemed like we were trying to tell a customer to pay more money because you could wrap it up like a football. They'd ask, "does that mean it will take up less space in my dive bag?", and we looked at it and explained.... "no.. probably more... but it's cool isn't it!?"

We had a big rack of them - and we felt sorry for them as customers would try them on... then try on a Sherwood Avid, or a Zeagle and the poor morphos would stare at the customer leaving him behind - kinda like the ugly puppy nobody wants in the pet store. So we sent them back... So as not to hurt their feelings anymore...

The only ones we sold, where times when someone would walk in the door and say "I want the new Mares Morphos". We'd pull one off the rack, and hand it to them. But if people came in and said, "I'm looking for a BC", we explain features, fit, warranty, etc.. then set them loose to try on any and all brands we have... and in that situation... the Morphos was not moving for us.

So not that there is anything "wrong" with it... just didn't go... Although I will say I like the cressi sub version of the Air Trim better than the Mares too...

d56nut,

Like Mr Mares (we must be dive brothers, our equip list looks much the same), I have been using my Morphos (original) for almost 2 years. I really love it. Very light, packs small, easy to use and trims easily in the water. No body squeeze and a back inflate with armchair comfort at the surface. I primarily do warm water diving.

I did pruchase my Morphos from LP and have had no problems. However, I live close to LP and can pop in anytime. You would have to send your BC back to LP to use their warrantee.

I also can understand Larry's (ScubaToys) comments as the cost. BTW ScubaToys is a very good shop and will work with you with manuf warrantee.

Do a search on Dive Equipment on the board and the internet and you will find all kinds of info. Hope this helps. Good luck with your equipment search and with whatever you decide on.

Dive Smart; Dive Safe
Enjoy the ride

Thanks to everyone who replied!!! Larry, you've made me feel better about the Morphos knowing you only sent them back due to non sale vs. something wrong with them. We will be purchasing them...most likely from you since you will sell for leisurepro's price. I'll email you as soon as we have all the funds together! Thanks so much to everyone!!! Looking forward to having my own bcd!!!

I wish there were more people around here like Larry (scuba toys). If I every get down that way I am stoppin with credit card in hand....droooling on my key board.

Well great... and who knows, maybe it was just we had them before their time... We get stuff as soon as it comes out from most manufacturers... Like I got the first Mares Titanium Nemo Computers heading this way - and we got the first Morphos as soon as they made them - So maybe we gave up on them before they had a chance to get popular.

Let me know in advance what sizes/style you are looking for so I can order it up in advance for you... and after you knock out a few dives with it - shoot me a full report - maybe we'll need to get these guys back on our wall.

Thanks again!
