Folks,

I am considering the purchase of a Mares M12 regulator, but the downloadable specifically mentions NOT to use enriched air with it. Mares makes a specific regulator for Nitrox use...

I know that, in general, most equipment can be used for up to EANx40 but not beyond. I am wondering if anyone has used this regulator for nitrox diving without having it nitrox cleaned...

ZBOSS go for it

Myself and many of my fellow divers use the mr12 as a stage and main tank reg and using nitrox up to 40% is not an issue, it is no problem at all.

Dove a 17 year old MR12 Navy the other day with EAN32... first time it had seen action in a decade... put it on a steel 72 in a backpack and had a blast... figuratively speaking of course :D

Thanks for your responses... my MR12 came today, it wheezes a little bit - I wonder if that is because it is new, that it needs to be adjusted, or if it will go away when submerged.

Did u order it,like mail order or get from dive shop, they do need to be setup or tuned when they arrive most times. If not it is common for them to free flow, not to worry though your reg is fine but it my just need to be adjusted a bit. Very common thing.
Enjoy diving with it we dive with them here in Canada, Nova Scotia to be exact and in water as cold as 29 degree Farenheit below zero. they work well in cold water and with Nitrox. Also Each year u just pay for servicing usually $30. Parts are free for life with Mares.

Enjoy the reg. I know guys who have taken that reg down to 260 ft, the venturi assist works great. BTW what second stage did u get with it?

I ended up buying through LP... my warranty, while not a Mares Warranty covers parts but not labor... no big deal. I am willing to pay the additional cash after the sale to save money up front.

They did assemble and test it before shipping it (for free) at my request. This will be the third time I have bought through them... just the first time for a regulator.

BTW - I am taking the equipment maintenance course anyhow... I have heard that adjusting the reg is not that difficult, aparently the same guy that wrote the oxygen hackers manual also has a book for that.

Just out of curiosity, my Mares M12 Axis came today and I noticed that the "bottom" is open...there is a cap that covers the outside but in the middle you can see the spring. Is this normal?
