I have a Mares Arkos 12 , can't seem to find any information on this regulator. Can anyone please tell me if this is a good reg or is it just a basic reg.

northeast diving cold water and also southeast diving.

system has Mares Arkos 12 reg and Mares nikos octo

any suggestion or advise would be appreciated.. thinking of getting this system serviced and bringing it home :)

I just purchased from LP for my Mares Ruby a custom mouth piece from secure it is great makes the mouth piece feel less heavy and much less jaw fatigue. It is a larger mouth piece that you heat up and customize to your mouth. it should come as standard equip.

The Mares "Akros" refers to the primary second stage, the "12"
refers to the first stage. The first stage is a balanced diaphragm design that is well proven and has an excellent track record for performance, durability and ease of parts/service. The Akros second stage has been discontinued but is a "good" second stage. Mares has been re-designing its second stages for the last several years and experimenting, so no surprise that this model is disappearing and some new ones are appearing. For the right price, this is a reg that should give you years of trouble-free use.

...haven't dove the Akros...but do own a number of Mares regs (a Ruby, 3 MR16 Voltrex's, 3 MR12 Voltrex's......as well as 3 Poseidon Odin regs)

The Voltrex series was recently discontinued.......but they are outstanding regulators with excellent performance...differing mainly from the Akros in having a mostly-metal 2nd stage, whereas the Akros has a plastic 2nd stage.

I can't speak from personal experience about the Akros....but have been most impressed with my Voltrex's, which are of the same 'vintage' as your Akros.

I bought an Akros last week and dove it last weekend. Worked flawlessly.
