I run a dive operations in Indonesia.

In the past 2 years, I have run into no less than 10 Mares dive computers failing on me. The first few (puck) were rejected by Mares due to "parallel" import, the next was blamed on battery change and chamber tightening too hard. So I stop allowing my DM to change batteries. I got another 5 more failures, 1 Smart watch having condensation within 3 months of use (with no change of battery), 1 Smart watch stopped operating - still keeps time, and 3 more puck failing to operation. And getting support from a remote island is at best a 2 month thing...

Wondering if I should go to non-traditional sources, e.g. Taiwanese company as they are better at electronics than Italians.

Thoughts welcome.

I doubt that Mares is making their computers in Italy, but it is probably Taiwan.
