“Helicopters were utilised in the search, including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and the police Eagle helicopter,” a spokeswoman said.

“Sadly, the male was located deceased in the water shortly before 10am.”

A spokesman for Surf Life Saving New Zealand said members of Piha Surf Life Saving team were asked to assist with the recovery of the body.

He said they were alerted after a diver ran into difficulties in the Manukau Harbour.

Police will now make enquiries into the death, and the coroner will release their findings in due course.

Sad to hear of another death.

As I have said a couple of times on this forum, NZ seems to have a very high death rate compared to the population (less than Sydney). Still cannot understand why.
