Seeing a marked decrease in people diving twin sets these days, with more and more people either:

a) going the rebreather route

b) going back to a single, with a big "f'ck off" pony to use on the 2nd dive of the day

c) going sidemounts

So, just wondered what other peoples experiences from around the world are??? Are manifolded twin 12's, the former standard of "technical" divers, now on their way to the extinct pile and soon to be classified as vintage scuba equipment??

I don't think so, they are great to dive in and there is plenty of gas for the non rebreather.

Sidemount is another, monkey diving, tank diving, there will be different set ups, but manifold twin 12's will be around for a while before it turns vintage. It started out twins, and tripples in the forty's with the aqualung, so I guess we have been diving double's in the vintage form ever since.

I just banded by twin 80s together... Just to free up the two LP72s I'll be using with my double hose :D

I'll post a photo of my twinset 80 with al40 bottle (total weight 50kg) and then (when I get my DH) I'll compare it to my intended double-hose set-up, just as a reminder to myself how uncomplicated things can be.

You folks do realize this is a vintage diving forum. Something just being old or out of style does not make it vintage.

Side mount is hardly a vintage topic. I think the only people I have seen using side mount outside of a cave were trying to impress the girls. I see no point.

Kind of hard to throw over my head, I think I will pass on the side mount foolishness.

And if you tried to do that, it could knock the mask off your forehead.

Actually, you take a pony and descend down to your full size tank that is on the anchor line, usually when you get down there with the girls, the 2nd stage is free flowing (easier to find tank if you leave anchor line) Now you have an empty tank on bottom and you are now running out of air, so here is how you impress the girls, you dive with them and breathe off there octos, they see that you have no air and you can dive and take a breath of air when you need one. The charm comes in when they see how long you can hold your breath on compressed air.

Captain is right were in the vintage forum.

I hate it when that happens. It is all about style, then and now. N

Geez, and there I was planning on using my neon pink, Seaquest BC and 6351 AL80 with a fishnet protector on it for a NAVED photo. This ruins everything.
