We were thinking of doing a live aboard in either Jan or Feb. The reports I've read about the Baani Explorer all sound really good. Has anyone been to the Maldives during that time of year? What was the viz and conditions like?

I'll be in the Baani Explorer from September 17th for 14 nights...so maybe I can tell you something in october.

as for the Maldives in that time of the year I believe it is supposed to be very good...it's the dry season

Hi
Been to the Maldives 6 times and just love it; not been/going this year due to earleir trip to GBR...and if I'm honest GBR did not do it for me....Maldives any time! We are looking to see if we can visit in Feb.

Not been Jan or Feb but Febs meant to be one of the best times to go; a diver we know goes every Feb and has done so for the last 8 years....lots..lots of mantas :0)

Maldives do alot of drift dives; great you jump in, go with the current and then the boat pick you up...I'll go for it every time!

Fish life fantastic; much bigger, lots of sharks, mantas, whale sharks, the only thing we have not managed to see it hammerheads...oh dear will need to book a return visit!

Sea temp: average 29 have done night dives at 31

Maldivian dive depths are strict: 30m restriction

If you decide to go have a fantastic time.
Take Care...Kasha

Thanks all for your comments. We would be flying from S. California and the flight duration is 35 hours going and 44 hours coming back, YIKES! This sounds really painful. Does anyone have any suggestions to shorten the long haul?

40 hours??!? You mean beside taking a sleeping pill and flying first class? ;-)
Next saturday I'll fly to London and from there directly to Male..10,5 hours

Lucky!, We can fly from LA to NY then to London or Germany and then to Male or from NY to Emirates and then Male
