At first it was just a hobby or sport. now I'm thinking of ways to make alittle money with my scuba skills. has anyone considered cleaning the bottom of boats while the boat is in the marina or using lift bags to recover lost boat motors. how about finding someones lost jewelry or personal things for cash ?.

any info one this subject pro or con would be nice !

I don't want to rain on your parade, but I'd be careful.

Technically, if you're being paid for the work, you are probably engaging in commercial diving, which (1) is governed by many rules, including OSHA regs; and (2) has unique challenges that may require specialized gear.

For example, some of the water I've seen in marinas does not look very clean. I would not want to dive in it without a drysuit that is meant for contaminated water, a FFM and dry gloves. I'd also want to make sure that I had someone nearby in case I got entangled in a line or had a problem. I would also imagine that you will need to make sure that the motor can't be started accidentally.

Unfortunately, I suspect that you will find that the logistics make it difficult to make money.

I was asked to help with a research project in a Lake where they suspected that dairy farm runoff contaminated the lake. While the pay was very nice, it was a hazardous (so to speaK) environment.
I have cleaned the bottoms of boats before but couldn't hold on long enough to do much good, I've got to look into that "dock at marina idea" . ;) Recoveries are nice and can pay well but they don't seem to come around as often as I would like.

Many docks and marinas have really bad electrical systems on the boats and docks, be careful.
