I'm going on vacation to Maine over the Fourth of July Weekend, and I've never dove in Maine before. Could anyone point out some nice places to dive in Maine?

Dood,

Maine is very large state. Where will you be vacationing? No point in telling you to dive Nubble if you'll be in Machias. :D

I can't believe we're discussing diving in Maine next summer. We are some desperately cold, hibernating mofos.

For what it's worth, Nubble Light rules, and the Maine side of Isle Of Shoals is an amazing dive, as well.

I lived just outside of Lubec for a while, and Eastport has some of the best diving on the East Coast... definately among the tops in the Northeast. Of course, Nubble and the Isle of Shoals are about six or seven hours away.

It's not that large.;)

Besides, I don't know yet where we will be staying the whole week, because part of that will be determined by where some good diving is located. A few hours drive is not a big deal.

I am not sure what the tourista infestation is like "up Maine" in July but in the Kittery area it's heavy. I'd suggest going north.

Hope you like black flies. ;) I wouldn't try driving anywhere in ME during the 4th it will be bumper-to-bumber on I95 from the NH border to at LEAST Portland. I'm thinking of going on a camping expedition and hitting the southern dive sites on the way up and/or down and staying up in Acadia since according to the "Shore Dives of New England" book there are some cool sites up that way.
