Hello!
I'm completely new to these forums but have been reading them to research a trip to Central America.
We're shortly going to visit Yucatán and Quintana Roo, and want to dive Banco Chinchorro.
I understand there are a number of dive operators in and around Mahahual, and I was hoping for recommendations (or warnings). I have read all the most recent threads but it seems like things change fast in the area.
Dreamtime Diving gets mixed reviews and doesn't sound very flexible in terms of planning.
I've read that only a couple of places have the license to run trips to Banco Chinchorro, so would be grateful to hear which these are.
Thank you!
PS I'm a novice diver, so don't have much useful info to share on the boards yet, but I hope to soon!

We have a group 4 that is doing 2 weeks in Cozumel during the first part of August. We plan on heading down to Xcalak around the 3rd to 6th of August with the purpose of trying to dive Banco Chinchorro. We have contacted XTC dive shop (in Xcalak) that has a license to go to Chinchorro. They require 5 divers and it cost about $190 per diver. It also depends on the ocean conditions, but have heard that summer is realitvely calm waters.

I read on another thread that Zona de Buceo (in Mahahual) also goes to this site, but have not touched base with them as of yet. Not certain of their cost and availability.

I would be interested in any information that you find.

XTC does seem to be "the" place in Xcalak but it seems to be quite a bit further to drive down a not-very-good road, and because of time constraits, Majajual is about as far as we can go. Zona de Buceo might be a good option...

XTC uses a larger boat but the distance to the reef appears to be further. I think the price is lower with Zona de Buceo. I think Zona de Buceo is the only option in Mahahual, any other shop will contract through them.
