Yep, it's pretty gross. That reminds me of another pufferfish tale I heard several years ago. I don't know if it's an urban legend or not, but there was supposed to be a pufferfish named
"Goldfinger" in Grand Cayman who bit off and ate the ring finger (and ring) of a very rich dive guest. What happened was the man grabbed the pufferfish and made it blow up. He then swam around the group showing it off and that's when he got bit. When the man let Goldfinger go, the fish swam off swallowing the finger and a $20,000 gold and diamond ring.

Makes you want to go fishing in Cayman, doesn't it? ;)

I don't know who thinks Pufferfish aren't potentially dangerous. They have huge choppers on them. I can't believe the guy waved his finger in front of it.

don't harass the critters.

Please don't make me angry.
You won't like me when I'm angry.

:out:

One word..."Gross"
I feel for the diver that lost his finger. Hope the puffer fish got food poisoning:D

I was on the exact dive when this happened! It was at hole in the wall in Jupiter. It was the first time I had ever been down 140 feet. Although I didn't actually see it happen I did see all the green colored blood gushing from his finger on our accent. Needless to say our second dive was cancelled so we could take him in to go to the hospital. His partner (thank goodness not me) had the pleasure of holding his glove with the other portion of his finger in it on the way up. 2 weeks later I went back to Jupiter and he was back in the water diving minus the end portion of his pinky!!

ItsMandy227 once bubbled...

 You were down 140 feet?!

I thought you were a new OW diver. Someone tell you that you were ready for that?

Or was that a typo...?

best regards, but - be careful! don

Yes I'm a new diver. I was with a dive master and a dive con was my buddy. I really wanted to go so they let me. I probably shouldn't of gone but believe me I've heard about it ever since. Probably shouldn't have put the depth in that message!

 It's pretty deep.

Really, I'm not qualified to say it's too deep for a newbie, and I guess it'd be okay with the best of dive buddies. It just sounds a bit much for a newbie.

Always be careful, and live to dive again and again...
