well guys,

I'm back from the Southern Red Sea, and it was great!!!!!!!!!!!

Best dive trip I have been on, you can keep the carib!

Anyway, I did a bit of experimenting while I was out there.

I have the 3040 with the PT-010 case and 67mm thread, I thought I would try and do macro on the cheap, and bought:

67mm - 58mm step down
58mm - 55mm step down
55mm set of close up filters (No's. 1, 2 and 4)

on land stacking all 3 gave excellent zoom results, but underwater zoomed too close (water between each lense plus the lense).

after a dive I figured out the No. 1 filter gave best allround results.

so the step downs cost £9 and the close ups filters cost £24

once i get my photo's de-blued (couldn't get a red/orange filter in time ;-0 ) I will put them on the website for all to view.

As for the WAL, I wasn't that impressed with it, on land it was OK, but under water, gave bluring around the edges and didn't give a good picture, so avoid the epoque WAL and go for the S & S :upset:

thats the trouble with you yanks, you think you are the centre of the world (just have to look in you location spiel), if it is the hub (center) of the diving world, how comes I have never heard of it?

yes any diving is good (to a degree), but I would rather do outstanding diving everytime :D

I have dived in Jamaica and the dominican republic and seen reports on here from others who have been to other parts of the caribean, if the caribean had half the fish that the Red Sea had you guys wouldn't know what to do!

tell me where you can get (if you have them at all in the carib) schooling picasso fish from babies right up to adults?, because I had them on nearly every dive, which was also about the norm for every fish species there.

You ask any one who has dived the Red Sea and the carib, and the Red Sea wins, and the further south you go the more prolific the fish life.
