There will be no Freedom Plate for me anytime soon.

Pacificcoastmarine temporarily ceased production because oxycheq modified their wings and Eric won't be making the new plate for a few months. :(

Too bad. I have to keep looking a bit more.

However, I am pretty sure that I will want the new Freedom Plate with the (plate-specific) harness once it is available. If I buy a different BP+harness for the time being, it would cost me at least as much as getting the (back-inflated) Zeagle Scout BCD. Probably it would make more sense to have a wing and a jacket than a wing with two different rigs. No?

I thought I finally had it figured out...

Could you explain this a little more? Are you saying the current Freedom Plates won't work with new oxycheq wings? I don't understand what's that different now.

Thanks,

I am not sure myself. From what the other guys posted, I thought the Freedom Plate was made for the Mach V. But Nemrod did say that a "Freedom Plate II" were in the works.

Anyway here goes Eric's answer to my inquiry:

"I hate to tell you this but the Original Freedom Plate
project was halted some months ago because the Original Oxycheq wings
that the plate was designed for became obsolete and replaced by the
Mach V.
I'm very sorry if you got misled. My lazy webmaster still has not
removed the old Freedom Plate info from the website.

In time there will be an all new version of the plate available which
will be designed specifically around the Mach V and it will also work
with other brand wings. It will be very close to the original plate
except a few slots and measurements will be changed but the general
design will be the same. I am in the process of finalizing the blue
print then I will order the stainless and begin production.
I cannot not give you a specific time line at this moment of when the
new freedoms will be available because we have been swamped with boat
repair work that must get done first. The plates are just a side line
business in our stainless shop.

Thank you for your inquiry and check back in a month or two.

Best regards

Eric"

That's all I know

I cannot divulge private conversations with Eric. All I can say is that the Freedom Plate that I have is the bomb! I love it and have put many dives on it this past summer. I use an STA, I would use an STA no matter what. I see nothing about the new Mach V that would prevent it from working with the Freedom Plate that I have pictured as long as it is used with an STA of some sort. "Some sort" describes the STA provided with my Freedom Plate in that I do not feel it is my place to describe it.

Currently, in lieu of a Freedom Plate, I do like the Dive Rite and OxyCheq aluminum plates and the Mark Medows type plates but I have not used it so I cannot say for sure how it works, all I know is I love my Freedom Plate and I do as well enjoy my Hammerhead and OxyCheq plates.

Good luck.

Nemrod,

I just wanted to say I love seeing pics of your gear. Makes me drool! nice and streamlined and the doublehose and reg(Aqua Master?) just looks oh too sexy! :D

Thank you Zen, I spend a lot of time streamlining and simplifying and still maintaining high functionality and reliability. LOL. The regulator is a Phoenix Royal Aqua Master, it knows no equal. The Tekna T2100B octapus--lol---well---uh---I love those things but they are a pain. I am now using the SeaTurtle second which is essentially no second, just a bite down nozzle or I use a Voit MR second. N

:rofl3:

How about the Mares HUB - they are even cooler. In addition to the 1001 inbuilt gadgets the HUB will also automatically make you a nice hot cup of chocolate when you get back on the boat!

I think it's got a bathroom too.

Everybody, I ordered as I was advised and expect the gear to arrive end of next week.

You can follow this link to read about my research experiences and my expressions of gratitude.

Thanks a lot! I mean it!

BTW, here is my first set-up question.

Congrats dude, you'll absolutely love the feeling of a bp/w!

Be prepared to put in a couple of hours setting up and tweaking, but it's worth it IMHO.
