Dear Diver

It’s that time again!

I would like to invite you to take part in our research to monitor the socio-economic impact of the Lyme Bay closure since it was established in 2008. So, if you dive ANYWHERE in Lyme Bay (not just the closure) please let us know.

This research project in now in its 4th year and each year we have written to you to invite you to take part. If you have previously taken part in this research project then thank you for your continued participation your knowledge of the local area is valuable. If this is the first e-mail you have had from us or if you have decided to dive in Lyme Bay in 2011 for the first time then your participation in this research will help us better understand the impact of the Lyme Bay.

Each year your responses are collated and the results are used to inform government on the development and management of the wider network of Marine Conservation Zones around the UK coast. So far in Lyme Bay there is scientific evidence of:
  • recovery of the reef habitat
  • an increased abundance of select species
  • socio-economic benefits and impacts for local stakeholders; and
  • a change in the location of recreation activities in Lyme Bay
We would like to invite you to take part in the fourth stage of this research and to complete the following questionnaire Lyme Bay: closure of an area to scallop dredging and heavy trawling gear
Please try to fill in the questionnaire as honestly and thoroughly as possible. We know that your time is valuable and we have therefore developed a questionnaire which should not take long to complete.

Your opinion matters and your response is therefore extremely important if the results are to truly reflect the opinion of the stakeholder community in Lyme Bay. Answers given will remain confidential and only aggregated data will be used in the analysis and reporting. By taking part in this questionnaire you are consenting to the use of the data you provide for the purpose of this research.

Thanking you in advance for your participation.
