I'm helping to plan a trip for a group of friends. We love the Excellence Resorts, but are looking for a different locale near great diving. If we went back to Riviera Maya, my husband would run off to the cenotes for 3 days of the week and I'd never see him because cenotes just aren't my thing. The trek to Coz is just too long to do more than once during the week and the local open water diving has been just mediocre for us.

So if anyone has a great all-inclusive to recommend, please let me know. We love great rooms, great restaurants, a clean resort, and plentiful drinks. My husband and I are the only divers in the group of at least 6-8 people, so we are not looking for a dive resort. Just somewhere close enough to great diving so that we could get in 2 tanks every morning then be back at the pool or beach for a late lunch and drinks.

Thanks!

There's another thread in this forum that was started a few hours earlier, http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/ge...luxury-accommodations-really-good-diving.html

And he was willing to settle for "really good"... you want "great". Holy cow!

It really depends upon what you perceive as "great diving" and what qualifies in your mind as "luxury".

One poster echoed what I had said for years: Where there is "luxury", the diving has been degraded by development.

If you are limiting your search to the Caribbean, you have no real chance of finding something to fit.

In a worldwide perspective, I would send you to Maldives.

Luxury - everything "great" in the Caribbean? Some places to look at. I've only been to the last two.

Anse Chastenet Resort - St. Lucia
Jade Mountain - above Anse Chastenet on St. Lucia. (and priced accordingly..)
Jumby Bay Resort, Antigua - full AI/drinks
Galley Bay Resort, Antigua - full AI/drinks
Hamanasi - Belize
Turtle Inn - Belize (the Coppola place...)
Little Dix Bay - Virgin Gorda. Can add AI package - not drinks afaik. Diving is very good to excellent. Their dive operator - DiveBVI is excellent also.
Lodge Kura Hulanda - Curacao. Excellent shore dive - can add meal plan.

fwiw - some of the above are honeymoon destinations also...

St Lucia as mentioned has some great places.
Grand Cayman has great places but not alot for all-inclusive.

I can't tell from your comment "...and the local open water diving has been just mediocre for us." if that means Riviera Maya or Cozumel. If not, in Cozumel there are luxury resorts (with AI) on the island and you would be back at lunch time.

You can try the Sandals thing. They have nice properties and amenities however except for St. Lucia I don't think the diving is that great.
You might try the Four Seasons hotel locations.

I can't tell if you are limiting this to Caribbean or not. If not, look into South Pacific. Some will be AI and some not.

Kryssa,

I haven't been, but my wife and I are going to Breezes/Curaçao in about a month and can let you know how it is. It's an AI with beer/wine included, definitely not a dive resort, but Ocean Encounters is on site. Also, the Dive Bus is across the street if you prefer shore diving. The house reef is supposed to be pretty good as well...
