:light: I am not much on shopping, but I needed more luggage. One of my large scuba gear bags served well, except it didn't have wheels - my fault as I should have paid more for the model that did, and my roll-on bag wasn't the biggest allowed. I usually get more generous weight limits than most, so I wanted the largest bags possible to roll & check my gear & whatever clothes I wanted to pack, plus all that stuff I like to take, coffee maker, cups, etc.
Again, not being much of a shopper, I hit Wally-World just a half mile beyond my office and started checking out the bargains. For checked bags, both Continental and Southwest allow up to 62" L+W+D.
> Hmm, 1-piece, 29" long, $45,
> Or 2 piece, 28" and 24" for only $50. Great, maybe I don't need that 1" difference - but the width was also 3" less, and probly the depth was less. A sucker buy, and I almost fell for it.
> Or great deal on 5 piece set - except it starts with the 28" bag I already rejected, and includes several very small bags I don't need at all. I got lots of small bags.
So I go for the 29" with maximum width and depth for $45.
Ok, I still need a 24" roll-on under the 51" total for Continental. SWA is different there, with limits of 10x16x24 inches so the bags will certainly fit their 737 overheads. Ok, I could go back to my 21" roll-on for them if needed, but I did find a 24" roll-on also under the other limits, so I can use it on both airlines. But I cannot find it by itself - only in the 3 piece set with two small bags I already established not wanting. Challenges...?!
ilot:
Oh not really, not spending that much here. The 24" roll-on was only $30 with the two worthless bags, but I just hate to buy more than I want - even if it's only a $5 value. I started checking around, tho - daughter's family had no need nor storage room, but - surprisingly enough - my brother's family likes those small bags. They're more into car trips, and even if they do fly - they don't take gear. Put the mini-bags to good use.
Surprise problem: I remember the clerk asking me "are these a set?" I nodded, paid, left, and now - oops! Since the tag was missing for the large bag, she charged me for the 24" set thinking the 29" was part of the set. Ok, I'm too honest to accept a $45 undercharge; am I going to have problems getting them to take the money...?? :silly:
