Thanks all for the quick replies! Probably will just look into getting a new reg...

P.S. I would've loved to see that hose blow up like that! What a story.

Maybe you could have another HP port machined.

...as mentioned earlier in this thread, I'm successfully using the HP port splitter sold by Northeast Scuba Supply...I've been diving with those 'splitters' for years...no problem, and such a splitter will only run about $ 40....but if you want to stimulate the economy and blow $ on a totally new reg, go for it! :)

No, and I'm surprised you have a reg with only one HP port. What kind is it? Use of a splitter as suggested above may result in a broken fitting in the HP side if you bump it. Not a premium place for a broken fitting, not that there are any better ones.

I'd also suggest a new regulator.

Hi Frank! ...well, one of the most commonly used regs out there is the Aqualung Titan/Titan LX series....I'd bet at least one diver on any given SPREE trip is using one of those.....and this reg only has one HP port. :)

Yeah, I was in a Scubapro shop yesterday and saw the Mk II/R-190 and Sherwoods also only come with one. Haven't noticed that before. I think any of the regs mentioned in this post are fine regs, I'd still be concerned about the splitter, though if the tank takes a tumble.

Lots of entry-level regs have only one HP port. There is nothing wrong with a splitter, as long as you don't use your first stage as a hammer or anything like that and take reasonable care of it.

I have a hoseless computer. It almost failed on me off Hatteras one day and I came close to aborting two dives because of it. I now have that same computer and a backup SPG. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I use my beloved AL Titan Lx as my singles reg and it has only one HP port. I also wanted to put a transmitter on it but wanted a backup SPG since I don't really trust my hoseless computer. Short answer, I got an HP splitter from a local LDS and it works just fine.

Do I get snickers from some of my DIR friends? (Well, much of what I do draws snickers....) But, so what. Is there "another failure point?" Of course. Has it failed? Nope. What if it does? Well, the quick answer is the dive ends (eventually, it is a HP failure point afterall). And then all you do is take the splitter off, plug in the SPG hose and use your hoseless AI computer as a NON-integrated computer -- trip saved and that takes maybe 5 minutes.

It is a very easy way to go.

...agreed, if you added up the total number of O-rings in an entire scuba unit (tank/BC/reg/etc.)...and then added ONE MORE O-ring to that already big pile of O-rings already in play....what measurable difference does it make to increase from say, 57 to 58 O-rings ???
