Hello everyone! Long time Scubaboard puruser, first time poster. Sorry if this is already posted somewhere, I did a quick search but didn't find anything. Feel free to move/combine if I totally missed something.

I only have one HP port on my reg. If I wanted to use a hoseless computer (w/ transmitter) as well as a backup pressure gauge, is there any kind of adapter out there that would allow me to convert one of my LP ports to a HP port? Or is there some other solution? I know this would be redundant, but I'm just curious.

Thanks!

There are some spliters that would allow two HP devices to be attached to one HP port I believe but not very popular. If that one device fails there goes both your computer and your SPG.

I do not think it would be possible/advisable to convert an LP port to an HP port.

Best of luck-consider buying a new first stage that has 2 HP ports would be my advice.

No, and I'm surprised you have a reg with only one HP port. What kind is it? Use of a splitter as suggested above may result in a broken fitting in the HP side if you bump it. Not a premium place for a broken fitting, not that there are any better ones.

I'd also suggest a new regulator.

Even if you could make a physical connection, the LP port would only read out at the Intermediate Pressure of the 1st stage, i.e. ~130psi - thus useless....

The adapters, Y-blocks or Unions I've seen only allow coupling multiple LP items together.

Other than ditching your current 1st stage, the only other option coming to mind is diving H-Valves and adding another 1st stage all together - but this is more $$$$ and hassle than simply replacing the 1st stage to begin with - thus not a good idea.

I believe that Northeastscubasupply.com carries an adapter that you might find helpful. I am referring to item #57215 on that page. It doesn't convert an LP port to HP port, but it effectively acts as a splitter for the one HP port.

If you're doing simple no-deco recreational diving, then there's really no need to have both an analog SPG and a wireless SPG attached at the same time. It is probably worth it, however, to take along the analog SPG in your save-a-dive kit. If your wireless transmitter fails to work during the pre-dive check, swap it out with the analog SPG.

If you insist on having both your wireless SPG and analog SPG connected simultaneously, just buy a new first stage regulator that has 2 HP ports. Simple fix. If you don't want to do this on account of the cost of the regulator upgrade, consider whether you need the more expensive hoseless computer in the first place. YMMV.

Have fun out there...

No, there is not anyway to convert a LP port to a HP port, no.

You really don't need both gauges, just use one or the other. If it is the AI you want then use it only.

To Wookie, there are many regulators that have only one HP port because there is no need for more than one.

BTW, most regulators have a restriction orifice in the HP port(s) as do most thread-in HP adapters. This is done to prevent massive free flow. However, LP ports have no restriction and can empty a tank rapidly, HP port leaks on the other hand just make an impressive stream of bubbles.

Well, I guess you could make them all HP ports but that would have some serious drawbacks.:D

Way back when I ws working on my ------- certification the leader of the fiasco had a bad leak in his spg. I was not at the front of the class and engaged in conversation with my training partner about the upcoming ordeal. I had noticed out of the comer of my eye that he was doing something with hoses but I paid him no mind. Then, I heard a funny qzzzzzzzziiiiiipppppppppppzaaaaaaapppppppoooooooowww- kaboom. Yeah, he had threaded a LP hose into a HP port (they used to be the same size). The hose swelled up impressively to about the size of a cantaloupe before letting loose right in his face.

I don't think his conversion was successful.:rofl3:

Having taken apart a Dacor HUB, you might be able to find an HP splitter that you attach to a short HP hose; that way the bump break issue mentioned by Wookie would not be an issue.

or you could take a drill press, and a vice and make sure you have a good tech drawing of the reg...or just buy a new reg.

:)
