Is the LP 77 worth buying for a single tank knock around spring tank? I mainly dive alum. 80's while spring jumping, and I am wanting to switch to steel to keep the weight off my hips. Is there a better option for the money? The LP 77 is 220.00 while others are well into the 300.00 range. Also how much lead will I be dropping from the Lux AL80 to the XS LP77?

twwo is WAAY too expensive brohan...
I just checked Lexington KY's craigslist and didn't find anything, not surprised, nothing really in knoxville, or cinci, or louisville. I wouldn't pay $220 for a 77... I'd keep hunting craigslist for used ones. If you make it out to the coast that's where the deals usually are on tanks. I'll keep a lookout and pm you if I find anything, but considering you can get a new AL80 for $125 around here, I wouldn't spend that much on a LP77. Hell I wouldn't spend that much on a single tank regardless

The funny thing is my LDS wanted 319.00 for the LP77 with standard yoke valve. That is 100.00 more than MSRP. I need a new LDS. Just let me know if you see anything for sale. Thanks

You gotta make an investigation and find yourself tanks to look inside and learn about
cause in may be the 100 tanks that have seen their way through my fingers, or on my
back over the years, they've been at least half price, mainly shmick and all passed test

I think I bought one new on account?

and after you develop a basic stable then you can buy a particular tank
and wait patiently for it's brother to come up, with a view to doubles or
other interesting things as your tank world may change every few years

I got my XS LP77 for $200.00 new with 10 free fills incuded. I like mine. I don't use any weights on a belt in my 5mm suit in FW or a 3mm in SW. I usually can get overfills w/little problems. Works fine for me. YMMV

Well I just bought a LP 77 from dive right in, I had quite a few points saved up and used them so I got away pretty good, but I still have to take it to my LDS for a visual and fill. I hope I like it. I will be diving the same setup as you and hopefully no weights!

Just checked the specs and it's very close to the LP85 tank. About 1.5 inches shorter which should trim out
very well depending on your height. Be sure to keep the plus rating when due for its' first hydro. A few extra
PSI and you will be at or above the AL80 with less weight to carry on your belt. My LP85 was around 300.00 retail.

I have two LP77's and paid around $210-$220 each. I can knock 4 pounds off my weight belt from an aluminum 80. I get them 10% overfilled no problem.
