Here is my generic back pain list:
These tips tend to work across the board for prevention as well as management.
- Hydrate! You would be suprised how much back pain is actually your body telling you aren't hydrated. This is particularly true if pills aren't doing anything for you.
- Stretch! There are a lot of techniques, but make sure you get the back, abs and legs particularly the glutes and hamstrings
- Posture! For us computer folks, this is a big one. Correct posture allows the frame (bones) to hold the body in place rather than muscle. It also builds stabilizer muscles in the back to help keep that form as well as shifting some of the work to the abs. Good all around.
- Abs! Do those crunches. Weak abs cause the back to have to do too much work.
- Workout! It is important to lower the weight and increase the reps when it comes to backs. A lot of guys increase their weight rather than their reps when they work out. This is fine most parts of the body but when it comes to back and abs, building stamina allows you to workout longer.
- Feet! Make sure you don't have many of the common feet problems like pronation or even high arches. If you do, get insoles or shoes designed to correct your strike.
- Sleep! Get a good nights sleep on a good mattress that supports your body well. A sleep study is probably not a bad idea either to make sure you aren't the one going bump in the night.
- Legs! Here is a fairly common condition in a lot of people. One leg is slightly shorter than the other. Get checked out and level those legs.
- Upsidedown! Hanging upside down can really uncompress a back. I find it very helpful personally.
