60's? That's tropical the warmest water I've ever been in in the UK is 20C(mid 60s).

What does it do in the summer (apart from get murky? :) )

Dom

Lol... Yep, that's the point. It's hilarious to hear someone say, "Man, that water's cold" when your guages are showing 71 degrees F.

Summertime temps approach 90*+. I once told someone who had been at the beach all day that the water temp was 85*... We were in a dive shop at the time. I got argued with, by both parties... The person who was at the beach, and the dive shop manager... "No way... It's not that warm... You're off by at least ten degrees." Guys, my guages showed 84* on the surface... And 77* at 100'. This was last July.

Our offshore waters... About 5 miles from the beach... Are warmed by the Gulf Stream, which heads directly to us from the Florida Keys...

...And the warm waters encourage tremendous marine life. Which, of course, results in plankton blooms... Which, of course, reduce visibility... Which, of course, makes all the wuss divers around here say, "Let's go to Florida. I mean, we're not going to dive AROUND HERE, are we?"

Diving here is fantastic. If it wasn't for the plankton blooms, the Hunley sub would not have been hidden from view in 33' of water for more than a hundred years. You should see what else is down there. :)

And yes, y'all are waaaay invited. My family owns a shrimp dock... Remember Forrest Gump's buddy? "Shrimp gumbo... Barbecued shrimp... Fried shrimp..." Yep, that's my family. :) I'll get 100 pounds of shrimp and we'll boil them in the backyard... They're like candy.

In fact, here's an interesting factoid... You know in the movie, Forrest Gump was the captain of a shrimp boat at the end? Yep... The actual boat which was used in the movie is my third cousins' shrimp boat. No kidding. :D

C'mon down, y'all...

Ok but we built the dock that they destroyed in the movie. Heeehee.

And, we moved the house. And, I played ping-pong with Tom Hanks. I gave his hat to Poppy.

Hey, it think we should go shrimpin' this afternoon. And, crabin' I would love to make some lowcountry crabcakes. Seafood boil with corn and sausage maybe? Yum. R

Yummmy  corn shrimp too???

I'll bring the brews :coke:

Maybe we'll even squeeze some diving in

I didn't know that. :) Too cool. I think we're all so accustomed to that sort of stuff here in tne Lowcountry that we don't even bother to "take note" any more.

Oh yeah... That's right... Ping Pong. Too cool. I think it's too cool that Mrs. South Carolina and Tom Hanks were in there playing Ping Pong, and now I'm somehow affiliated. I have to take note of this, step back for a moment and look at the big picture and realize just how cool that is.
