Hi,

I just finished a dive and I lost my manual compass.

I am going to be taking a GUE class. Will they accept an electronic compass such
as the one found in the Suunto Vyper air.

The reason being is I don't want to spend for a new compass when an electronic compass is what I would like more.

Please help and advise

The GUE divers will have to confirm, but I can't see an issue with a digital compass. As long as you use the dive computer in gauge mode during the class I see no issue using the build-in digital compass.

Discuss it with your instructor. He or she will hav to decide if it is allowable. I don't think GUE actually prescribes a manual compass on the left arm and a computer/depth gauge on the right, although it is considered standard config.

I did the GUE Fundies course over the summer and I don't recall using the compass at all during the course. Best bet would be to email / call your instructor and ask their opinion though.

Compass won't do you much good in a cave. Leave it at home.
