I lost my dive logbook during my trip at Viet Nam , but I'm planning to have my DM course and there needs at least 60 Dive logs . Is that mean I have to start from Zero?

You only have to prove 40 dives to start the training. You can use cert cards to prove some of the dives - an OW card proves you did four dives, AOW an additional 5 etc... Do you have a dive computer ?

Maybe contact the dive centre you intend to take the DM training with...

Don't worry too much about that. If you get a new logbook and start logging from where you left off that's fine. For your divemaster you don't have to send in proof of all 60 dives but the instructor will verify it and sign it off. So, if you chat to your divemaster instructor I am sure they will be fine with that. Good luck and have fun on your divemaster program!!

You'll probably be OK re the above. We've all heard of people "faking" a log book. After you prove your OW, AOW, Rescue dives (what's that--12-14 dives?) with the cards, you probably can remember enough of the other 27 dives to just estimate and re-write them (of course, telling your instructor you did so). Lost log books threads occur occasionally--I always recommend keeping a paper copy (whether the originals are paper or electronic) in a separate place. If I'm going to places that I absolutely know nobody will check my book (obviously that wouldn't include places I don't know the dive ops, like Vietnam), I don't bring it (saves space too). I just bring my card and enough blank pages to fill out. Oh, I also Xerox my cards. I put these copies in my "firebox). Then again, my wife says I have a bit of OCS. I plan on taking no more courses, but still would hate to loose the info. on all those dives.

As suggested just do what you can by memory.

I keep a spread sheet of dives listing date, site, depth, run time, water temp, viz operator, state or country. I found it handy if I want to look up what conditions were on a given dive some time back. It is also fun on a rainy day, I set up counters by state, dive op, etc., time under water, etc. (I have been under water for 14,880 minutes or a bit over 10 days :-) ) Got a free dive when I showed my favorite op that I had just done my 100th dive with them.

Only takes about 1 minute to enter the data after a dive and the spread sheet is backed up.

Everyone tells me I'm a bit off for keeping three formats of my dive log, paper, DM4 and Excel. Well maybe I am :D but anything worth doing is worth overdoing!
