My wife is planning a Valentine's Day vacation so that I can do some diving in early March. My options (dictated by frequent flier miles) are Cozumel and Los Cabos. I've been to Cozumel and loved it, but I've never been to Los Cabos. Is the diving worth it at this time of year? All research seems to indicate lower visibility (20-50 feet) and water temps (65-75 degrees) at this time of year in the Sea of Cortez. Will this be enjoyable in a 5 mm suit (I hate 7 mm suits)?

Or should I opt for the warm and familiar 80 degrees and 100 foot plus visibility in Cozumel?

I also posted this in the Mexico forum, but guessed I might get a wider audience and quicker response here. Thanks!

Depends on what you want.

World class resorts, never ending partying and less than stellar diving in a thick wetsuit=Cabo.

World class diving in your comfy 3mm wetsuit, not so world class resorts and tamer night life=Cozumel.

I LOVE Cabo.... however, for diving at that time of year... better stick with Cozumel.

Some of the best times of my life have been parting at Squid Roe in Cabo. Its an awesome place for a vacation, but you are right about the water temp dropping.

It's going to be cold! I know when I was there in June some of the instructors guys were wearing 5 mils with hoods and booties... Earlier may be even worse...

Ed - I was there mid March last year and I thought it was good, but I dive in the north east so anything a little warm is good. I dove in a 7mm, with no gloves and no hood. I am normally a cool person but I was very conferrable. The dive operator I used was north of Cobo at the reserve they have, it is about an hour ride from town, however there are a number of dive shops in town. I was able to setup it up through my hotel, I stayed at the Weston. I can post the dive operator if you would like. As for the dive they had some coral, normal fish but the best part was the sea lions. There is a rock island they gather on and jump in around you and play. I have not been to Cozumel so I can’t to a compare, just figured I would give my 2 cents…
