Dove a certain southern-facing dive site yesterday scouting for tropicals - not to catch, just to see. I thought we'd been skunked until we were heading back and passed over the eelgrass. I was looking intently for pipefish when suddenly a piece of eelgrass darted away from me...hmmm...:raised eyebrow: Then I recognized the head and body shape of a small trumpetfish - about 8 inches long and perfectly camouflaged green - the exact shade of the eelgrass. If he hadn't darted off a couple of times, I'd never have seen him. I yelled to my buddy, but when he didn't come over, I looked over at him to try to get his attention - but when I looked back, of course, I couldn't find the trumpetfish again. Damn! But I was thrilled...I'm hoping to be back in the water as much as possible - hopefully with my camera and strobe to get some photos. Hopefully the aquarists won't snatch 'em all up before I get a chance to get some nice photos...I LOVE tropical season! :-D

Dive site name withheld so I don't reveal all to the folks who'll snatch 'em all up....besides - you guys know where to look!

Hmmm... none of the south facing sites with eel grass I know of have trumpetfish. I am stumped. :D

Seriously though, that's cool, I've never seen one of those around here.

i caught a trumpetfish like 8 years ago in a minnow trap, they are really cool animals and was really excited to find one in RI
