Last weekend's quarry dive was nice and fun, except for a couple of buoyancy issues. Those were annoying, and I felt embarassed in front of the other divers (even though they were nice about it). I do feel optimistic that taking the PPB specialty plus going to the Caribbean where I'm not wearing so much neoprene and lead will help. That and getting more practice.
I like the relaxation tips - thanks! I also find that looking at interesting things is very relaxing. I do love fish and other sea life. That's the reason I want to dive!
One big thing I need to work on is relaxing at the start of the dive. I have a tendency to breathe off the top and fin too much at first, which makes it difficult to descend. And then when I finally relax and breathe all the way out, my buoyancy drops and I find myself suddenly dropping. Shallow dives with a lot of neoprene and weight make it even more difficult. Descending and ascending without a visual reference will take practice too.
My computer said Fantasy Lake was 63 degrees at 35 feet. Cold but not frigid, although I did find the hood (mask sealing issues) and gloves (dexterity issues) annoying enough to take them off. The deep dive temperature will be 40 degrees starting at the thermocline, which is probably around 40-50 feet deep. I'll want to get that part over with as quickly as possible! I don't think I'll ever be a cold water diver.
