can anyone help me with advice on where to buy two used AL80 tanks in south florida.
thanks

just be wary about the deals you can get. If a tank cannot pass hydrostatic testing (or even visual for that matter) then you are out money ...

Ebay, sports, water sports, scuba, tanks. I'd get a couple Catalina's, in hydro and inspected.

good point.

for the original poster, I'd make sure not to get any Luxfer tanks made before 1990.

Luxfers made before May 1989 were made of 6351T Aluminum Alloy, which has "Substained Load Cracking" issues. Most dive shops won't fill these anymore in most locations in the country.

some won't fill any aluminum tank made 1989 or before, so best to stay away from these as you might have a large paperweight.

just no sense buying trouble you don't need/want.

There are tons of deals on Craigslist in SE Florida. I check almost daily. There's not too much steel, but lost of aluminum. You can easily get AL's still in their first hydro for $100 or less asking price which is usually negotiable.

One problem I have found is that sometimes it is hard to resist. I check often, now I found someone with 2 63's that he wants to sell for $40. I am thinking, I don't need them but for a beach dive they may be nice to have...
Happy tank hunting.

i dont know how far south you are but while we were in Key Largo on vacation a dive shop had new AL 80's for $130.00. They had some that were painted and some that were natural colored. I think the place was called "scuba outlet" and it was in Tavernier.
