Recently relocated to Atlanta, but missing my Florida springs and wreck diving. I am in search of a perfect shore dive location with one caveat - no required buddy. I really loved the Cayman islands for shore diving but they are extremely strict on the solo diving rule and sometimes I prefer extended dives solo. Any suggestions for a resort location with an exceptional shore dive?

You know Bonaire is often referred to, with only mild exaggeration, as the "shore diving capitol of the Caribbean."

And welcome to Craplanta.

Can anyone suggest a reasonable Bonaire resort with good dive packages that is near some choice spots?

Still trying to learn how to time this traffic Lorenzoid. :( Thanks for the welcome.

Post this in the "Bonaire" forum to attract more specific replies than you'll get here in "General Travel." There are tons of threads there to read. Obviously, "where should I stay" is a common question.

Delta has a nonstop from Atlanta to Bonaire, wish I had that.

I've stayed several times at Sand Dollar and Den Laman, located at Bari Reef, a fantastic house reef and great night dive. I have many memorable solo dives on it.

Everyone has their favorite lodging and operator, you'll get many suggestions, particularly from the Bonaire forum

Good diving, Craig

Yeah, for something like $950. Delta charges the citizens of their hub city dearly for the privilege.

The only single airline ticket from Philadelphia to Bonaire is on Delta, with a stop in Atlanta, it's running $930 for Sat-Sat in August. Direct from Atlanta is currently running $850 for same dates.

For many of us, biggest problem with Bonaire is getting there and home. I can fly AA nonstop from Philadelphia to Aruba but then fly to Bonaire on Insel Air with a stop in Curacao, that itinerary costs $1000. I can fly AA to Curacao with a stop in Charlotte and then take Insel to Bonaire, that is the cheapest itinerary at $720. I don't know who has an easy, inexpensive plane trip to Bonaire

Staying for a couple weeks sure takes some of the pain out of the airline trip....

Bonaire is very small. No need to worry about accomodation location.

Packages not required, but you can get them at resorts like Buddy Dive, with room/food/truck/air. Very popular.

Personally, I book a room wherever I want, rent a truck (with full insurance) on my own from AB rentals, and buy an unlimited air/nitrox package from Wannadive - pick up and drop off 24h. Food is easy. There is a nice grocery store, several good little restaurants, an awesome food truck, and a load of Chinese joints.

Bonaire is my favorite place to dive purely because in addition to very nice diving, it's easy and adventurous to DIY with total freedom.
