Large schools of fish? Do you mean like this? The school consists of bigeye scad. There were roughly 1000-2000 in the school. We saw about 6-10 schools from the boat that day. These fish were seen on Bonaire. We have encountered large baitball schools 3 times in about 20+ trips. Bigeye scad and boga. Other divers have seen different species in equally large schools. I suspect the schooling is seasonal. The person holding the slate in the left image, telling us what species is in the baitball, is Jerry Ligon, the well known naturalist on Bonaire. The right image is another view of the same school. If anyone would know when and where to find large schools of fish on Bonaire, Jerry would. You can probably contact him through Bonaire Dive and Adventure on Bonaire, as he does fish ID dives and island birding trips with clients using BDA as his base.
