Hi all!

After being introduced to spear fishing, I must
say I am hooked!

Now, for various reasons, I am going to go
with Pneumatic spearguns.

I am looking for the 24-28inch range and high quality.

What are your recommendations?

I hear Mares and Cressi both
make top notch.

Thanks for all your help!

They are both very good. I have one of each and have had good service from them both. The new Mares Cyrano uses a 7mm diameter shaft that is supposed to be faster than the 8mm one used by the Mares Sten gun. The Cressi SL and Star only vary by the SL having a "low power" switch. Any of these you would likely find to work great.

Wow, thanx, you answered the 3 questions I had in one post :O)

Since I will fish all sorts of fish, I guess the low power
switch should be a good option for walley and bass?

Also, what about those pumps that they have?
Can you pump more for better power, does it have a bleed valve?
(Pump till the valve hisses and you are done, or pump till you can't
pump no more?).

Does Mares have low power switches as well?

Finally, what maintenance is needed? O rings, oil?
I guess rinsing as well?

Thank you again!

whoa, there little buddy!!!!! do not think that you can just shoot any fish that swims!!!!before you even take a speargun to a lake or river ( at least here in california) you'd better check the fish and game laws. plus, you are not allowed to even posses a speargun in a state park in any of the inland lakes that i have dove. save yourself a bunch of headaches and explainations to a bullheaded judge, do your research as to when and where you can spearfish and what you can and can not shoot. that is part of being a responceable spearfisher person. ken feel free to pm me is you have any questiuons.

Thanks for the heads up abman.

I live in Montreal so my spearfishing will
take place in lakes around Montreal and the Laurentians,
a mountain chain north of the city, of which Mt Tremblant
is part of.

In Quebec, all you need is a fishing permit and to observe
all quotas as described in the fishing laws.

3 species cannot be hunted underwater: Trout, Musky and Salmon.

And that is it...

In Ontario, it is illegal to hum underwater, in Scuba or Apnea.
