I'm looking for a liveaboard trip in 2014 between late June and early Sept. Not really set on a destination, was thinking Palau or PNG, but open to suggestions. I did Socorro in Jan. and Fiji in Aug. They were great, but not interested in returning so soon. My main interest is in photography, macro to fish-eye. Would love to join a group rather than being by myself, and really not in need of 5star luxury, just need a place to sleep and eat. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank You
Mike

I would recommend PNG - amazing place, amazing diving. Worth the effort to get there. Alotoa/Milne Bay has a well deserved reputation as the ''home'' of muck diving so there no shortage of photography opportunity there. Friends have just returned from a LOB on MV Febrina out of Walindi plantation and are raving about how great their diving was. MV Chertan is a nice boat operating around Milne Bay - M.V. From your dive history if Socorro was what you consider good - you may want to look at Rangiroa and Fakarava in French Polynesia also.

Hi,

If you are looking for a really unique trip, try Truk Lagoon. Diving the sunken Japanese ships is a kick. The night dives are especially delightful. The coral blooms and nocturnal critters abound on the wrecks. There are a couple of deep dives that are worth the effort--but are a bit below the rec diver limit. The DM's on the boat are very helpful in that regard.

Hey mike,

contact The SS Thorfinn, I just got back from 2 weeks, the best 2 weeks I ever spent diving, 5 different wrecks every day, great food, great cabin, great trip. You can really trust these guys.....

Talked a couple of people into going to PNG, to Walindi then on the Fabrina. Can't wait, it's a little latter this summer. Liked the Fabrina because of the avalibility of single cabins.

I am thinking of doing this trip sometime in the next year....am looking forward to hearing about your trip on this forum when you get back.

The difference between Komodo and Palau will be which one you enjoy more, macro or big reef systems? Komodo is just fantastic for macro with some nice blue water dives. Palau has incredible large scale reef systems and great shark action with some pretty interesting macro dives.

We didn't do many macro dives in Palau so I'm not sure how well it would rate if you tried to seek those kind of dives out the main macro stuff was on the wrecks and the ends of some of the dives in the shallows.
