I have done four Nekton Diving Cruises Trips. I would highly recommend the Nekton Pilot in Belize. Belize was some of the best diving I have done. The waters are warm and very clear. The Pilot has a great crew and they treat you well.

Too many choices to give you any kind of a usefull answer with the little data you have given us. Where do you want to go? How much do you want to spend? What do you want to see? etc, etc, etc. We all see this in different ways, and there are a lot of possibilities available out there. Give us a little more and we will see what we can do to advise you. Woody

We did it in December of last year. Cuan Law Trip report I was not impressed with the visibility in December, but I was there in late September and it was amazing. I was talking to a local shop and the best diving is May to September.

I just took my first liveaboard trip last week and it was great. I was on a boat called Vision from Truth Aquatics. We departed from Santa Barbera on a three day dive trip to the channel islands. The food on the boat was absolutely fabulous and the crew was extremely helpful. A thee day trip typically runs around $550 which is worth every penny.

Thanks for the information so far. To narrow things down a little. I am most interested in staying in the Western Hemisphere and would like to keep the price under $3000 per week for a single.

Thanks,

Rich Hagelin

okay, since you say that, I would check out Nekton Diving Cruises - Comfort, Stability, Worldclass Diving and Explorer Ventures: Adventures in Live-Aboard Diving for trips in Caribbean. Coming from WA state, I am sure the airfare cost will be high. Nekton boats leave from Ft. Lauderdale in summer and would be the least expensive in that respect. Explorer trip to Turks & Caicos looks really good to me and as a single you can get the cheaper room. Same thing goes for the Explorer Bahamas, cheaper room for singles but it leaves from Exuma, Bahamas. The Aggressor boats seem to be a bit higher in price than those two if price is a factor. Liveaboards really are more economical when you average the # of dives and cost of trip. :D

You might also want to consider the size of the boat and the amenities, especially if you are considering a trip in storm season. I speak from experience, current experience. We are marooned on the Caribbean Explorer I, which is sitting at the dock in Georgetown harbor at Great Exuma island in the eastern Bahamas, and have been stuck here since Monday. Tropical storm Noel has us pinned down here, and I am grateful that we are on as big and well equipped a vessel as this. The DVD player is getting a workout, and now that we found an internet connection, some of us are getting back in contact with the outside. I can only imagine what this would have been like had we been aboard one of the smaller and more crowded vessels that I have tried recently. Just another factor to keep in mind. Woody

If you're going Caribbean, I'd strongly recommend the Nekton. It's quite a bit cheaper than most of the other companies...

Nekton was a whopping $100 cheaper than the Cayman Aggressor when I went back in April, but Nitrox was more on the Nekton creating a net savings of $50 vs a week on the Cayman Aggressor. I ponied up the difference.

On a trip that ends up in the $2500 range at the end of the week - no matter which one you book with - don't make your decision based on a desire to save money.

Check the rates of the different liveaboards as well as the reviews given here on SB. I've done 3 different ones 2 Aggressors and Mike Ball. Liveaboards are great if all you want to do is dive. I hope you can put together a trip.
